5.5L NA V8 - used in the ML55, as well as the first E55. G55, S55, CL55, CLK55, and C55. the current CLK55, upcoming SLK55, and upcoming C55 use a modified version of this engine which gives out a little more horsepower.
5.4L supercharged V8 - aka "kompressor", used in the current S55, SL55, CL55, E55, G55, upcoming CLS55, and also the starting point for the SLR's engine
5.8L V12 - used in the '01-'02 S600 and CL600. this engine was detuned from its 6.0L, 389hp predecessor, but it did have the ability to run on one bank of cylinders to benefit fuel economy
6.3L NA V12 - used in the '01 S63 and CL63 with a reported output of 444hp. these models were supposed to sit above the non-kompressor S55 and CL55 once it became widely known how much faster the (NA 5.8L)600s were
5.5L biturbo V12 - used in the S600, CL600, and SL600 starting in '03. 500hp/590tq, hello mercedes taillights.
6.0L biturbo V12 - found in the S65, SL65, and CL65. 600+hp, 700+tq. an exercise in excess.
6.0L NA V12 - the original S600's engine. used from the early 90's until 2000 in the CL and S class and until 2002 in the SL.
6.3L NA V8 - this engine is in development to replace the 5.4L kompressor. mercedes has expressed interest in steering away from forced-induction engines, mostly due to reliability issues/questions. how it will be numbered on future models is unknown, but it will probably not be (N)65 AMG in order to avoid confusion with the V12 65.
