New Golf Now Available With Innovative DSG Direct Shift Gearbox
DSG now available in the Touran 2.0 TDI
WOLFSBURG, Germany - The engine and gearbox range for the new Golf and the Touran compact van continues to grow.
Following the launch of the Touran 1.9 TDI with Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) in Autumn 2003, the new Golf 1.9 TDI and 2.0 TDI as well as the Touran 2.0 TDI are now being offered with the automatic gearbox that uses a dual clutch.
The Direct Shift Gearbox combines the acceleration and consumption characteristics of a manual gearbox with the convenience of an automatic gearbox. The advantages of the six-speed DSG over torque-converter automatics are improved consumption and smooth acceleration with uninterrupted traction. The average consumption of the Golf over 100 kilometres is 5.2 litres for the 1.9 TDI and 5.4 litres for the 2.0 TDI. This figure is 6.5 litres for the Touran 2.0 TDI.
Both models combine excellent consumption with a high torque output. The 1.9 TDI delivers 77kW/105hp and has a maximum torque of 250Nm. The new 2.0 TDI featuring four-valve technology reaches 103kW/140hp and 320Nm. This matches the six-cylinder petrol engine featured in the Golf R32 in terms of torque.
The Golf with Direct Shift Gearbox starts at €20,300 (example price for the 1.9 TDI Trendline). The new Touran 2.0 TDI DSG starts at €26,250 and can be ordered in the Trendline and High_line versions.
