Thats the best way to improve your english,even when you dont understand some words just keep reading ,meaning will show with the next lines,and speak to others with good english and never use common english or what they call slang language cause its the wrong way to learn english or improve it,best luck for you " the light of abu dhabi" is the right way to translate your name

dear dr_mido - I can see according to your classification that you find learning english or improving it a hard job, but trust me , its only difficult at the start then everything is easy to know or spell,some english words are even mistaken by english people themselves, so no need to think negative, just keep trying and enjoy the beauty of expressing your self in other languages, and no need to memorize words you don-no-t use , pick others with same meaning that you prefer,use a
dictionary-thesaurus

Dr.Waseem I think it is a nice subject to talk about Islam.
Islam is our beautiful religion. All of u can observe how the west and non-muslims in general talk about this religion.
I think they do not know what is the True Islam.
How can we share to let them know what is Islam?

At the beginning only it's difficult .. then it'll be easy ..

But some times .. it's a bit hard to pronouns some words :rolleyes:

In such a case .. I think we need a spoken dictionary

I don't think so, because most dictionaries explain infront of the word how it should be pronounced, and don't worry much about many difficult words cause between the british themselves pronouncation differ from irish to scottish to english. and sister muslimah if you watch their programmes and news you will increase always your vocabulary. Finally a very important point to emphasize in every learning if you don't have the will to do it then you will never do it.

It is great to discuss that how we can improve our English and I TOTALLY agree with Yaqutah.

The best way to improve your English is reading a lot.
I encourege everybody to read and read in different subjectd so you will learn new words and in indirect way you will learn grammar.


In order to improve your writing skill, you have to write articles then show them to an expert guy preferably an English native speaker and follow his advise.

learning any foreign language must be started from premature childhood,

but unfortunately here we don't start it until intermediate level schooling.

but we must be optimist, we can help each other.



an.oher problem is that when we want to compose an english sentence, our arabic
structure of sentence drive us away from the correct english structre.


and here is the question how can we avoid that???

but i think that the better way "as Yagootah mentioned" is by reading and
whatching english programs


and as a commentments

I have a nice way to improve your language ...

you know disney channel

this channel displys alot of transelated serieses from Jascpe company
or something like this I don't remember the exact name of the company

whatever these serieses such as "Brotherly love", "Home improvement", .. etc
are displayed many times during the day

so in first time you watching the show, hear the conversation
and at the same time read the translation.

in second show, concentrate on listening only and try to avoid
reading translation, and if you start to read stop reading and try
to complete the conversation in your mind.... this is a very good practice
improving your ability of generating sentence.




in later level of your language improvement
you could watching news channels, it is hard at the begining
but if you concentrate you'll be surprised cause you'll find
that you can undrstand more than 60% of the speach

Thanks for your comments ,but let me disagree with you on the translated programmes,a big NO to depend on them,better imagine there'nt any translation and figure out the meaning of sentences or topic of conversation.
In translation from english to arabic i find it easier because that way i can express my way,but when asked from arabic to english,its a bit tricky cause our mother language is very powerful with expression while english is direct in approaching the subject. The only thing i feel responsible for my good english is reading,all sorts of reading, first i started with short novels then my scientific books in college, and now my reading are larger in volume and in many subjects of interest like forensic crime novels and medical journals and research and sometimes i take a brake between them and read soft short stories. Join english sites Forums and talk with them,they will help in improving the grammer and vocabulary,and you will be able to see many types of expressing in their chatting and gain much experience even if you just read their discussions with each other

I think it is better if there is a specific person who is responsible of
mistakes correction, cause this is hard to us (trying to replay and
correct at the same time and sometimes we cann't find the mistakes)
